about One KC Voice
One KC Voice is a regional citizen involvement concept that uses the value of a network to hold public engagements. The program is headed by a coordinator and maintained with the help of a communications specialist, who communicate with citizens through churches, neighborhood associations, community centers, nonprofits, and other organizations throughout the region. Currently, mostly federal and state grants fund the costs of holding engagements on different topics. For a more detailed explanation, visit How It Works.
The One KC Voice Advisory Committee is the primary support network that works behind the scenes to select pertinent topics, guide the planning and development of topical engagements, and expand the network.
The network is what makes One KC Voice special. Through partner organizations, citizens have the oppotunity to engage in ways that are meaningful and familiar to them. The network covers the metropolitan area and establishes an infrastructure for face-to-face meetings that allows a rapid response when an issue is ripe for public discussion.
Network Members host One KC Voice meetings by either providing space, recruiting participants or both. Members include churches, libraries, neighborhood councils, civic organizations, community centers and others -- any organization that believes in community engagement can play a role.
Network Members often find participation helps them fulfill their mission and gives their constituents a voice in public affairs. The network helps guarantee that diverse voices are heard and that under-represented communities have a place at the table.
