"Landfilled" community discussion series
Project background
This project is designed to engage citizens in conversations about what values and interests govern their lives, and how these values and interests affect their participation in solid waste management programs, such as recycling.
Process
"Landfilled" metro-wide community discussion series
A total of 25 discussions will be held throughout the Kansas City region. The feedback from the discussions will help the MARC Solid Waste Management District and its members design programs that enjoy greater citizen involvement, lower barriers to participation, include citizen ideas for innovation and improvement, and incorporate more effective education and communication strategies.
Phase II: Workshops
Five workshops will bring citizens, professionals and decision-makers together to discuss how programs can be redesigned to better sync with citizen values and lifestyles.
Phase III: Final reporting
A final report will be written for the SWMD that details strategies citizens have said would increase their participation in waste-reduction programs.
"Landfilled-WyCo" disucussion series, workshop and final report
One KC Voice will also convene a series of six group discussions with Wyandotte County citizens, which are supported by funding from the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kan. The feedback from the discussions will be delivered to Solid Waste Management Committee to help it develop its new curbside recycling program.
