Workforce housing in the Northland
Project background
What does affordable housing look like? Studies show that there is currently a shortage of available housing that meets the needs of low- and moderate-income families in the Northland.
This project focuses on engaging citizens in discussions about values and how to best meet the affordable housing needs of the Northland community. The project is funded by the Northland Community Foundation.
Process
Phase I: Community discussions
One KC Voice will invite the public to attend a series of three discussions to explore values around meeting the workforce housing needs of the Northland. These discussions will be held in the Northland region with the help of the partner organizations. Each scripted, facilitated community discussion will last about two hours. Feedback will be transcribed by a recorder.
The discussion format will include:
- Identifying barriers to the availability of workforce housing
- Identifying complications resulting from the unavailability
- A visual preference exercise and survey
Phase II: Final reporting
A final report will be written for the Northland Community Foundation that details what options citizens say will best meet the workforce housing needs of their community.
